Coastal Athletics Day

I'm so proud of all our Year 5 & 6 students. They had a great day at the very well organised Taranaki Coastal School Athletics day. All students participated to the best of their ability. Great results in both the Year 5 and Year 6 relay. Well done everyone and a big thank you to our parent helpers.

Beach Clean Up Morning

Room 7 students did an excellent job picking up rubbish at the Skate Park in Oakura this morning. They even found some treasures - a helmet, a rugby ball and a boogie board! After the hard work, we all walked along our beautiful beach, crossed the river and had some fun at Corbett Park. A big thank you to our granddad and mum who helped make our trip a success.

Pukeiti Class Trip

Room 7 students had the most amazing adventure today. Thanks to Emily and Andrew from the Taranaki Regional Council, students and our wonderful parent helpers went for a 3 hour tramp along part of what will become a cycle trail from Pukeiti to the coast. We tramped along an track that is not on the map. The track followed the old tram tracks from when the area was logged earlier in the 20th century. We all observed the many traps along the way which are helping to make Taranaki predator free.

What a wonderful experience we all had.

Students 'unpack' the Oakura Learner Profile and what it means to them. They then set their own personal goal based on what the class have decided is important under each of the headings: inclusive, confident, innovative and resilient

Student Agency Book Standards

Students worked in cooperative groups to create book standards that they felt were important to them and their learning. The standards are to ensure their record of learning is at the expected level or above. Here is what the students came up with and agreed to:

Literacy Books:
·         Write neatly, with even spaces, so it can be read
·         Write on the lines
·         No scribbling or doodling
·         Write on every second line (only in draft book)
·         Use a ruler to rule off at the end
·         Use a ruler to rule through mistakes
·         Start at the margin
·         Write with a blue pen, correct with a red pen
·         Write the full date or the dot date (depending on the piece of work)
 Maths Books:
·         One character per square
·         Put the question number to the left of the margin
·         Use a ruler for lines and to rule off
·         Use a pencil to record and rub out mistakes
·         Red pen for marking
·         Write neatly so it can be read
·         Start at the margin under the last ruled line
·         Write the dot date followed by the WALT
