Once again the Oakura Students demonstrated our school values while competing in the Coastal Cross Country event at Omata. Although the course was challenging, all students tried their very best and achieved their personal goals.
We were proud of each and every one of you.
Oakura School 2022 Room 7 is made up of 32 learners - 31 fantastic students and their teacher. We are all looking forward to a great year in the Year 5/6 team. Our school is situated west of New Plymouth, on the coast. We have an amazing school environment that we really value and we are have a key role in the Predator Free Taranaki initiative. In Room 7 our class motto is 'We choose kind.' Our blog shows what we have been getting up to in Room 7.

Cycle Skills Training
All Year 5 & 6 students were lucky enough to take part in cycle skills training. Having a correctly fitted helmet is very important so that our brains are protected.
The 'slow race' proved a challenge with students having to ride as slow as they possibly could across the courts. The winner was the last person to get to the other side. Well done to Allie.

Science in Room 7
In room 7 we have been learning about the importance of including vegetables in our diet. We also discovered that you can grow a new onion plant just by planting the pieces that is cut off the bottom of the onion and often thrown away. We also discovered that mushrooms grow from spores.

Year 5 & 6 Interschool Final Games
Yesterday our 3 year 5 & 6 interschool teams played their final games at Saint Jospeh's School New Plymouth. All 3 teams finished as 'runners up' in the competition after three very close games. It was a pleasure to watch all three games - the level of skills the team members displayed was amazing. Well done to everyone involved.

People Savers Course
Room 7 students were lucky enough to have Nicki along from the Red Cross to guide them through the People Savers course. The DRS ABC was emphasised throughout the day and students learnt about the importance of tilting an unconscious person's head back to ensure their air way is unblocked.
At all times students need to consider their own safety.

Science in Room 7
Room 7 students soaked an egg in vinegar for 3 days. They discovered the acid in the vinegar reacted with the calcium in the egg shell. This reaction created carbon bubbles. After 3 days, the egg shell had almost completely dissolved. Now we have the 'shell-less' egg soaking in a sugar solution. What will happen we wonder?
